Timeless
It was reading Porius by John Cowper Powys (1872-1963) that inspired my Timeless series of paintings. Porius was a Welsh prince whose descendants were Roman and also Cewri (Mountain Giants). The story is set in Edeyrnion, North Wales, in 499 and draws upon Welsh history, mythology, mysticism and Arthurian legend. It was a magical time before science and industrialisation, when Christianity was just becoming powerful. Roman gods were still worshipped, but Druid and Forest People’s beliefs of magic were also accepted. There were still Cewri living in the mountains. Time seemed to stand still in this book as Porius pondered his beliefs and made decisions about his future. He wanted to reject his parent’s beliefs and way of life. Many of the human issues and conflicts in the story are timeless, mirroring those of today.

Timeless Triptych
The idea of a triptych fascinates me, as it is both three parts, which are inseparable, and yet clearly one work. In Porius the early Christians were called believers of the three gods in one. The Holy Trinity is one, and yet three, as in the triptych. As you can see with the example above, I am continually drawn to this idea, three parts in one is recurring in my work.
